ServerWorld Magazine reports that AOL has announced they will release an email client (AOL Communicator) offering compatibility with point of presence as well as their own proprietary mail format, and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) formats.

ContentWatch announced the release of EmailProtect, a new software application that allows email users to eliminate unwanted emails based on their category. Supported mail clients include Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus and Netscape.

eWeek reports that a number of Microsoft customers are angry and frustrated with what they say are the company’s attempts to use its security initiative to get them to upgrade or buy new software.

The Seattle Times takes a look at LapLink Everywhere, which provides an external server for accessing your Outlook data. The only requirement is that your home or office computer have a full-time connection to the Internet.

Forbes reports that Microsoft Outlook released a program to make it compatible with Lotus email systems. The Microsoft Outlook 2002 Connector lets Microsoft’s software access email on a Lotus Domino server. Outlook mainly worked with Microsoft’s email server, Exchange, while Lotus worked with IBM’s Domino line of servers.

Sprint PCS has taken the wraps off a new smartphone made by Samsung for use Sprint’s Vision network. The SPH-i330 offers voice and data communications, a color touch screen, the Handspring Blazer browser and the Palm OS platform. According to NewsFactor, The i330 supports most of the Palm OS applications currently available, enabling customers to download Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes data, and personal information management.
