Vircom Inc. announced the unveiling of VOP modusGate, a family of specialized secure messaging gateway solutions designed to provide dedicated spam and virus protection in front of Microsoft Exchange.

InfoWorld reports that a new version of iAnywhere Solutions’ mobile email access software is scheduled for release next week. Mail Anywhere Studio provides direct server synchronization between mobile devices and enterprise email systems including IBM’s Lotus Notes and Microsoft’s Exchange, allowing workers to access corporate email through handhelds running Palm, Pocket PC or Symbian operating systems.

ZDNet reports that there’s a new virus that can surprise users looking for up-to-the-minute championship results during the FIFA World Cup. According to this article, the VBS/Chick-F virus arrives via email as a compressed HTML file that carries the subject RE: Korea Japan Results. Once the attachment is executed, the text "Enable activeX To See Korea Japan results" is displayed. If ActiveX is enabled, the virus will search drives C, D and E for an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) executable file. Once located, the virus will be copied into the C drive as koreajapan.chm and propagate itself to users on the same IRC channel. The virus will then send an email to the first entry in a user’s Microsoft Outlook address book with the same subject line.

eGrabber Inc. announced the release of AddressGrabber v3.1, enabling users to automatically enter names and addresses into Microsoft Outlook from email, Web pages, Word documents, as well as web forms. AddressGrabber Standard is available for a free 15-day trial and can be purchased for $69.95.

XO Communications launched XO Hosted Exchange. The service provides Web based access to email and key collaboration tools such as group distribution lists, calendaring, contacts database management and file sharing.

GFI released LANguard Security Event Log Monitor (S.E.L.M.) 3, a host-based intrusion detection system that monitors networks for security breaches. The product analyzes the network security event logs and alerts administrators of key security events. GFI is offering a free starter pack of GFI LANguard S.E.L.M. 3 for 1 server and 5 workstations at its Web site.

Hummingbird announced the availability of Hummingbird RM 5.0. Hummingbird RM 5.0 allows end users to perform records management and document management activities through a single Web-based user interface.
