Sperry Software has released four add-on solutions for Microsoft Outlook 2000/2002. Attachment Save removes the file attachments from incoming emails and saves them to a Windows folder when each email arrives. Email Duplicates Eliminator takes care of duplicate emails that are created each time you synchronize your personal data assistant with your desktop computer. Add Email Addresses automatically adds names to your address book when you send emails.

Handspring released Treo Mail 1.5. Treo Mail is a personal wireless email service that provides tight integration with a Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino or POP3 email inbox. Compose, send, receive and delete messages right from your Treo communicator, using an existing business or personal email account. Messages are formatted for the communicator display, compressed and delivered securely between Treo and the desktop.

GFI is launching a new version of GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP that uses a variety of methods to eliminate spam from corporate networks. GFI MailEssentials blocks spam at server level while adding email tools to Microsoft Exchange Server and other mail servers, such as disclaimers, mail archiving, Internet mail reporting, server-based auto replies and POP3 downloading.

A variant of the Bugbear worm was the most widespread virus in October, according to statistics released yesterday by Sophos Anti-Virus. ZDNet reports that Bugbear-A displaced Klez-H at the top of the virus list last month, although the latter is still causing serious problems.

iManage announced the release of iManage WorkSite MP 3.0. The new iManage suite includes MailSite MP, which brings email into its core repository through deep integration with Microsoft Outlook for management along with other forms of business content

Interlink Electronics and Fincentric Corporation announced a strategic relationship formed to integrate Interlink’s ePad electronic signature solution into Fincentric’s i-Wealthview Banking system. ePad-ink, Interlink’s new LCD e-signature input device, is compatible with today’s leading electronic signature software and point-of-sale transaction terminals. ePad-ink can permanently bind signatures into Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and AutoDesk AutoCad documents, as well as a variety of proprietary electronic documents and forms.

Best Software has introduced version 6.0 of SalesLogix, which includes a new tiered architecture and enhanced features designed to make life easier for sales reps. CRM Buyer Magazine reports that Version 6 includes a number of improvements that make the application more user friendly, including tighter integration with Microsoft Office, mail merge improvements, and enhanced Web client functionality.

MDaemon 6.5 is now available. MDaemon 6.5 gives you many enhancements in the areas of security, system administration, user amenities, and performance. Highlights include XML technology for fail-safe contact synchronization between MDaemon and the Outlook address book as well as ODBC interfaces for account and mailing list management.

Postini announced deployment of a new service enhancement to its existing email filtering capabilities that blocks the latest threat to corporate and service provider email users, the Friend Greeting application. The Friend Greeting application is an email message crafted by a company called FriendGreetings.com. When opened, the Friend Greeting message requires the recipient to download and install an application and agree to allow the recipient to send its list of Microsoft Outlook contacts directly to FriendGreetings.com. This interactive process is not the same as the classic email virus, but is considered a threat because proprietary corporate contact information may be released to FriendGreetings.com.

The Houston Chronicle has this brief summary of the latest email threats. One is a Worm.HLLW.Merkur that masquerades as an updated antivirus program. The second threat is an electronic postcard from FriendGreetings.com propagating via email. Upon clicking the link provided in the message to pick up an electronic greeting card, the user is prompted to download software to view it. If the user accepts the End User License Agreement to install the software, an e-mail is sent to all contacts in the user’s Microsoft Outlook address book.
