Sybari Software expanded the fight against viruses and spam with the launch of new software that can make instant messaging more secure. According to eWeek, Sybari announced Antigen 7.5 for Instant Messaging, an extension of its anti-virus software for email. It supports both Microsoft’s Office Live Communications Server 2003 for enterprise IM as well as IMlogic’s IM Manager gateway for the major consumer IM networks. eWeek also notes that Sybari is prepping a new release of its Spam Manager software that includes support for the spam confidence levels (SCL) in Microsoft Exchange 2003 that help filter unwanted email from legitimate messages.

ACCPAC International announced the launch of a major upgrade to ACCPAC CRM version 5.6. The many new features of ACCPAC CRM 5.6 includes integration with Microsoft Outlook and IBM Lotus Notes; new support for the IBM DB2 database; and Telephone Application Programming Interface (TAPI) support for expanded Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) options.

The Detroit News reports that Microsoft is making computer security against viruses and spam its top priority and bringing out more products for the fight. At COMDEX, Bill Gates showed off a new anti-spam program, called Intelligent Message Filter, which will be an add-on for users of Microsoft’s Exchange email server software in the first half of 2004. Gates also previewed a new version of its Internet Security and Acceleration Server program, intended to block email and Internet-borne computer viruses better. The program is set go on sale in the middle of next year.
