SnapManager 3.0 supports Exchange Server 2003

Network Appliance announced SnapManager 3.0 for Microsoft Exchange supports both Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000. SnapManager 3.0 for Microsoft Exchange is a data management solution for hosting and automating backup and restoration of Microsoft Exchange-based storage groups.

Aventail upgrades Secure Access Policy Platform

Aventail introduced a software upgrade for its SSL VPN appliance. According to Internet Week, the Aventail Anywhere Secure Access Policy (ASAP) Platform 7.0 is included in the Aventail EX-1500 SSL VPN appliance. The software also enhances usability for its policy management tools, including pre-built security templates for common applications such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook web access.

First Look at Nokia’s N-Gage

TechTV has this first look at Nokia’s N-Gage, a portable gaming device mated with a cellphone and a host of other features. N-Gage was released with week along with 10 titles, including "Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater" and Sega’s "SonicN." You can also synch basic contact, calendar, to-do, and notes info with desktop PIMs including Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes.

New ZIP software released

7-Zip Software announced 7-Zip 3.11, a free software distributed under the GNU LGPL license that supports a multitude of other formats – 7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB. 7-Zip says that the new 7z format offers 30-70 percent improvement over the compression ratio in ZIP format based solutions.

GrigSoft released Compare It! 3.2, a Windows program that helps you compare two files instantly and merge them, if necessary. GrigSoft says this application is capable of highlighting the differences in two documents for easy visual side-by-side comparison.

Sierra Wireless announced Voq phones

Sierra Wireless announced a new product line combining a mobile phone with handheld email and Internet access. Canada.com reports that the first of the Voq line of phones, which include a flip-open computer-style thumbpad for text entry, is expected to be on sale in the first half of 2004. The Voq will be based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile software, and will include an e-mail solution supports enterprise email systems including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, and Novell Groupwise.

Siebel strengthens ties with IBM, Microsoft

Siebel Systems made a number of announcements surrounding its Universal Application Network integration platform. eWeek says the moves strengthened its ties with both IBM and Microsoft. The company announced at its Siebel User Week 2003 its Siebel Business Integration Applications 3.0, which adds new integration processes for sales management, service management and employee relationship management. Siebel also announced a new release of Siebel Business Integration Applications, which runs on the IBM WebSphere Business Integration platform.

Siebel, Microsoft talk BizTalk Server 2004

Siebel Systems and Microsoft announced new deployment options for Universal Application Network utilizing Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004 as a run-time engine and tool-set for customization. The companies also previewed new .NET based Smart Client technology, providing deep integration with Microsoft Office System and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 within all hosted and non-hosted Siebel deployments. In addition, Siebel 7.7 includes integration with both Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Exchange. Siebel 7.7 allows users to link Microsoft Outlook records to data in the Siebel database, and the Siebel Exchange Connector allows users to synchronize calendar information, contacts and to-do lists between Siebel 7.7 and Microsoft Exchange.
