Nokia is looking for additional partners among resellers and integrators as part of a three-pronged approach to market with Nokia One software-based services. According to Computing, UK, Nokia One allows users to check voicemail, access calendars and corporate directories and send and receive email from any device remotely. Users can preview subject headers, then call in and listen to their email and reply via SMS.

Plaxo, Inc. announced that in the six months following the launch of its flagship product, more than 800,000 members in over 200 countries have downloaded and used Plaxo Contacts. Plaxo Contacts integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express and devices such as PDAs using the Outlook platform, works by enabling members to choose people from whom they want to get updated contact information. It then sends a simple email message on the person’s behalf, allowing the contact to reply either by email or via a secure Web site. Plaxo Contacts processes the replies and integrates updated information into the person’s address book.

Radvision announced new versions of its Invision videoconferencing network appliance. Iinvision products feature a call scheduling tool users can use to schedule and control a voice, video, or data session using either Microsoft Outlook calendar scheduling (optional module) or through an easy-to-use Web interface.

AT&T Wireless and palmOne announced the immediate availability of the Treo 600 smartphone, an integrated wireless smartphone that runs over AT&T Wireless Next Generation GSM/GPRS network. The Treo 600 smartphone provides a POP3 email solution and comes preconfigured with settings for several popular ISPs, or users can set up the Treo 600 smartphone to access their own POP3 accounts. In addition, through agreements with Good Technology and Visto Corporation, AT&T Wireless is now offering corporate email solutions that provide businesses with access to Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes email behind their corporate firewalls.

Motorola introduced Mobile PhoneTools 2.0, a software solution that links a Motorola mobile phone and PC. Motorola’s Mobile PhoneTools 2.0 is compatible with the newly announced Motorola V300, and will be compatible with most future Motorola mobile phone models. Motorola’s Mobile PhoneTools 2.0 is equipped with 16 international languages and comes with pre-configured data network settings for many wireless data operators and supports Outlook 97/98/2000/2002, Outlook Express and Lotus Notes.

Accpac, maker of software for small to mid-size businesses (SMBs), has announced an upgrade of its CRM application that runs entirely within Microsoft Outlook. NewsFactor Network reports that enhancements in the 5.6 version of Accpac CRM include integration with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes and support for the IBM DB2 database.

Infowave Software announced that its new version of Symmetry Pro supports four new mobile device platforms. Support for Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003, Pocket PC 2003, Symbian Series 60 and Symbian 7.0 UIQ devices have all been added to this application. Infowave Symmetry Pro 2.5 is a wireless email solution that works with Microsoft Exchange a wireless network and mobile device powered by Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Palm and Symbian mobile platforms.

Beginning December, customers of SUSE LINUX 9.0 Personal or Professional will be able to purchase SUSE LINUX Wine Rack, an add-on that enables utilization of numerous Windows applications in Linux. For $39.99, SUSE will provide CrossOver Office and CrossOver Plugin from Codeweavers, giving Linux users access to applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook from the MS Office 97, 2000, and XP packages (Outlook for XP not supported), Visio 2000, Intuit Quicken, Apple Quick Time, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and IBM Lotus Notes.

ZDNet has this interview with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. In the interview, Gates talks about the future of technology and where Linux fits into the pitcure. According to Gates, "Linux is what Unix was in the 1970s: a perfectly reasonable operating system. Clearly, at the server level there’ll be intense competition where (companies) like IBM put WebSphere on top of Linux. That’s very expensive and we just put the app server into Windows. And then people can do the value comparisons."

Internet Week reports that Sharp will ship its## Zaurus SL-6000 PDA early next year featuring IBM enterprise applications##, as both look to build market share in the burgeoning mobile middleware industry. IBM officials said the PDA will be priced at the enterprise level and run WebSphere Everyplace Connection, WebSphere Everyplace Access and its DB software on the 32-bit Linux OS.
