IBM is rolling out new releases of its Lotus Notes/Domino, Sametime, and QuickPlace collaboration software. InformationWeek reports that Sametime 3 and QuickPlace 3, new releases of Lotus’ instant-messaging and team-collaboration applications, are integrated with the Notes and Microsoft Outlook calendar applications.

PC World has that the number of email messages will double from 31 billion daily now to 60 billion by 2006. Reasearch firm IDC published the report to help develop an understanding of how email will evolve in light of other newer communication tools, such as instant messaging.

ValiMail for Microsoft Outlook is a software plug-in that stops unsolicited email. ValiMail applies to email the buddy list concept often found in instant messaging systems. An email sender who is not already in a ValiMail user’s list of approved sender accounts is required to request the user’s permission to send email messages to that account.

Cole Valley Software has introduced ContactEase 9.10. The new release features a customized Microsoft Outlook form that allows users to access the complete firm-wide database from within Outlook, without any additional training. The form performs duplicate checking and brings ContactEase’s categories and client/matter information directly into Outlook.

Panda Software’s Virus Laboratory reported a new email worm Bugbear that attacks files used by antivirus programs and firewalls. Once this worm has infected a computer system it stops antivirus programs and firewalls from running. Bugbear randomly makes up the subject, contents and the name of the attached file.

Active Voice will unveil its new Kinesis Microsoft Exchange-based true unified messaging solution at MEC 2002 in Anaheim, California. The conference is scheduled for October 8-11 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Kinesis is a Windows 2000-based communications server that delivers voice mail and unified messaging into a Microsoft Exchange environment. It gives users the ability to access and manage their voice, fax and email messages from a PC, telephone or the Internet.

Lyris Technologies and EmTec announced that Lyris has acquired Emtec’s SpamDetective antispam software. Lyris is marketing the acquired software as MailShield Desktop and MailShield Workgroup.

Kyberpass Corporation announced the next release of the Kyberpass TrustPlatform. The Kyberpass TrustPlatform is deployed at the perimeter of the network to connect customers and business partners. It combines a Security Server, Browser/Desktop Plug-ins and a Developer Toolkit.

Caelo Software announced the release of Nelson Email Organizer (NEO) version 2.5.1. This version of NEO has a faster and more flexible preview pane viewer, which makes NEO compatible with Annotis Mail from Emeris Technologies. Caelo Software and Emeris Technologies have entered an agreement to co-market their respective products.

CTL launched its new Wireless Email Extender, allowing users access to their corporate email, and Wireless Unified Inbox, enabling mobile users access to their corporate voice, fax and email messages from their mobile phone. Whether a company has Microsoft Exchange/Outlook or Lotus Notes, the Wireless Email Extender software allows wireless users to interact with their same email inbox that resides in their office.
