We’re doing an upgrade to the ZENPRESS rendering code. After more than five years of use and updating, our core code got kinda "crufty," so we’ve been working for the past few weeks on a rewrite and began generating pages using the new code this weekend. As you’ll no doubt notice, there are some holes, which we intend to fix over the next few days. There are over 500 routines that have been cleaned up, rewritten, deleted, or consolidated and when you’ve got that much code, there’s bound to be some residual gunk that’s got to be found and removed.

TechWeb reports that Kubi Software announced the beta of Kubi Server, enterprise software for managing multiple collaborative workspaces that users access through its Kubi Client, an add-on to Microsoft’s Outlook and Lotus’ Notes email clients.

Capital IQ announced a platform update centered on a revamped Excel Plug-In, a new company and person screening tool, a new Relationship Tree feature that maps a financial professional’s web of relationships up to two degrees of separation, and a new version of its Outlook Plug-In. With the new version of Outlook Plug-In, Capital IQ is now integrated with Microsoft Outlook.

Three years after changing its handheld brand from Windows CE to PocketPC, Microsoft announced that it is going back to the Windows name, calling its latest handheld operating system Windows Mobile 2003. According to Forbes, the OS will better integrate with Microsoft Outlook on the PC and with Microsoft Exchange Server, meaning email on the handheld can be constantly updated. Devices that support Wi-Fi wireless networking will automatically detect nearby networks and connect to them.

Information Week reports that Salesforce.com unveiled enhancements to its software and revealed a marketing deal with Dell Computer. Salesforce.com S3 features tools that let users share documents, plan sales strategies across teams, and replicate their Salesforce.com data on a local database. Dell says it will begin offering its small and midsize business customers access to Salesforce’s hosted applications through its small-business Web site beginning in August.

Chapura released a new software package called KeySuite, offering owners of Palm Powered handhelds a way to carry their information from Microsoft Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes. KeySuite’s four software components, KeyDates, KeyContacts, KeyTasks and KeyNotes, are replacements for the built-in Palm applications and enhance the Palm OS platform.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates called for government and corporate cooperation to stem the tide of junk email. ZDNet reports that in an email to customers, Gates wrote that Microsoft researchers are working on technological fixes, including smart spam filters for mailboxes that would continuously adapt to keep pace with the latest spam techniques. The next version of Microsoft’s Exchange email server software will also allow third-party software makers to create spam filters that can be plugged in to Exchange.

Andale announced that it is releasing its new suite of 2003 products to provide online auction buyers and sellers with the information they need. One product in the suite is Andale Email, a plug-in for Microsoft Outlook that automatically organizes, sorts, and replies to auction emails. Sellers can use it to build FAQ lists and have them automatically attached to their items.

CommVault Systems announced CommVault QiNetix QNet software. In a Microsoft Exchange environment, IT administrators can map email usage within the Information Store, comparing email usage to nearline and offline storage usage. With that information, they can then create a data management policy that optimizes Exchange server performance, disk capacity, individual mailbox size, and also meets organizational retention requirements.
