Trend Micro reported that virus writers unleashed a series of new threats in March, including several worms related to the war in Iraq, but none have spread very rapidly or developed into serious threats.

Bytemobile introduced its 2.0 Optimization Service Node (OSN). The company claims that the new carrier-grade platform offers gains over data performance on existing, unoptimized wireless networks and other access types such as dial-up and ISDN. Additionally, Bytemobile’s 2.0 Optimization Client will be available as part of this solution, offering functionality to enterprise subscribers for dynamic optimization of Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes.

InternetNews.com reports that Salesforce.com introduced a new offering that bundles its CRM software with Microsoft’s Outlook email software without having to rely on additional server integration.

MailFrontier released the latest version of its anti-spam product, Matador. Matador 2.0 offers support for Outlook Express and Web mail programs including Hotmail and MSN, and IMAP when used through the Outlook Express email client. The software also supports corporate Exchange environments and POP3 systems such as AT&T, and Earthlink, when using Outlook or Outlook Express.

Artisoft and Excendia announced the integration of Excendia Outlook by Phone with Artisoft’s TeleVantage 5.0. This joint solution provides TeleVantage users with the ability to access and act on their Microsoft Outlook from a telephone. The integration of TeleVantage and Excendia Outlook by Phone enables users to access their Inbox, Calendar and Contacts in their TeleVantage and Microsoft Exchange databases, whether in the office or from a remote location. Using a telephone, they can listen and reply to their email messages, review and schedule appointments, and access their contacts to call or send a voice message as an email to any of them.

ComputerWorld has this article about a new anti-spam service from Mailblocks, Inc. The service uses a method called a challenged response, which sends a message asking the sender to type in a provided seven-digit number into a box in the email. Since only an authentic sender can type in the number correctly, and a computer-generated spam mailer can’t issue such a response, the email is then perceived to be authentic and added to the recipient’s accepted senders list.

InternetWeek reports that Commtouch introduced enterprise spam filtering designed to adapt to the needs of end users while being controlled by IT.

Symmetricom Trusted Time Division (TTD) announced Trusted Time ExchangeProof for Microsoft Exchange 2000 users. Symmetricom has added support to its ExchangeProof/StampServer solution that creates a digital signature fingerprint for email flowing through an Outlook/Exchange email server without any user action. ExchangeProof is an add-in that enables the Trusted Time StampServer organizational time signing engine to generate a digital signature for every email and append that signature to the email record.
