IMA releases version 7.1 of its Internet Exchange Messaging Server (IEMS). The enhanced Standard Enterprise version, providing all the same anti-spam and virus protection of the full Professional Enterprise Edition, is also now available free of charge to all customers registering with IMA. The Standard Enterprise Server has been enhanced to incorporate full anti-spam, Microsoft Exchange compatible calendaring/scheduling, distribution lists, and BSMTP support.

Security experts spotted working source code on underground hacker sites that exploits the most recent vulnerabilities in the Windows RPC DCOM interface, hundreds of machines have already been compromised with Trojan horses bearing the code, and a worm able to infect thousands of systems is not far behind. According to this article in Internet Week, the exploit code found on multiple hacker sites would allow an attacker to obtain authenticated access to RPC DCOM vulnerable computers, which then opens the system to all kinds of mischief, including identify or password theft, deleting files, and initiating a denial-of-service attack.

HP announced it expanded its data management initiative, which is aimed at helping companies deal with changing business needs and regulatory requirements like data archiving and recovery by providing them with a range of storage, software and server products as well as services. HP also introduced its OpenView Storage Area Manager 3.1 software, which provides users with a centralized view of storage capacity from Oracle and Microsoft Exchange products as well as capacity reports.

InfoWorld reports that on October 1, Nokia will launch Nokia Enterprise Solutions. For Nokia, the term enterprise mobility means integrating IBM’s WebSphere, Oracle application servers and databases, and RIM’s email servers with next-generation smartphones.

Sun Microsystems announced that its new Java Enterprise System includes 10 new and significantly enhanced components. As part of the Java Enterprise System, Sun today also announced Software Express, a new methodology for the regular revision and enhancement of its flagship software platforms. One component of the Java Enterprise System is Java System Portal Server, Secure Remote Access 6.2 , which includes secure URL hiding, SSL hardware acceleration, WebDav support and increased interoperability with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes.

Microsoft and Motorola introduced the first Motorola-branded phone to use Microsoft’s software, the MPx200, which will go on sale first in the U.K. with French wireless carrier Orange. The phone will come to the U.S. later this year, carried by AT&T Wireless.

Seaside customers have continued to access Exchange without interruption to critical business endeavors. With Seaside’s approach, users get rich client features (e.g., offline use, synched online performance, archiving) with their web client, HiPerExchange.

Information Week reports that Microsoft is ready to unveil Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2003, the first new release of the former PlaceWare service since Microsoft bought the conferencing vendor in January. Live Meeting is integrated with Microsoft Outlook 2003 and the MSN Messenger instant-messaging tool, with users of both able to launch conferences directly from their messaging views.
