PalmSource has announced at its developer seminar in Munich that the next version of its operating system, codenamed Sahara, will be ready on December 29. Brighthand says that Palm OS 6 will offer many features business want, like support for Web services and accessing Microsoft Exchange and Lotus email servers.

Teamplate released a new version of its workflow software for creating human-based business processes that leverage Microsoft infrastructure components. The Detroit News reports that Ray Ozzie, the software designer who wrote the Lotus Notes program, may try to derail a $521 million verdict against Microsoft to help save the company from having to make changes to its Internet Explorer browser. Microsoft last month was found to have violated a patent held by Eolas Technologies and the University of California. Lotus Notes used similar technology before Eolas applied for its patent, and that may clear Microsoft, Ozzie wrote on his Web site.

A new mass-mailing virus is on the loose on the Internet, this one masquerading as a message from Microsoft about a cumulative security patch. Known as either Swen or Gibe anti-virus experts say it has the potential to spread quickly and widely. This article from eWeek says that Swen attempts to spread through several different methods, including peer-to-peer file sharing networks and IRC channels.

Information Week reports that Cloudmark launched software designed to differentiate trashy email sent by spammers from bulk email sent by legitimate businesses. SpamNet is installed as an add-on to Microsoft Outlook 2000 or later version of the email client. The spam blocker takes a 24-character representation of the email, and sends it to the Cloudmark server, which checks whether the sender has a high probability of being a spammer.
