Chapura released PocketMirror 3.1.6 Professional software for synchronization of Palm Powered handhelds and Microsoft Outlook with Business Contact Manager. Users of Microsoft Outlook with Business Contact Manager (BCM) can set PocketMirror Professional to synchronize the Business Contacts folder in BCM with the built-in Palm OS Address Book.

The Age reports that Telstra’s BigPond is in hot water again, this time with customers taking up its offer of free spam-filtering, antivirus and firewall services to compensate for its email service problems. According to The Age, quite a number of customers have taken up the offers and a number of subscribers have reported problems with using the services and a lack of technical support. Some are also miffed by Telstra’s inability to offer technical support for the Microsoft Outlook 2000 client software.

American Multiplexer announces product details of e-FotoXpress – a software utility powered by AMC-JPEG2000 technologies. e-FotoXpress is a software utility that will compress images with the highest possible compression. It allows many more pictures to be sent in one email without the loss of quality. The product is designed to compress any high-resolution JPEG images from many different digital cameras and camcorders. While it works with many email utilities, such as Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo and Hotmail, this product allows you to browse your directory for the desired images, generate thumbnails and send thumbnails of JPEG2000 compressed images to any recipient.

eWeek takes a look at Microsoft’s Office Live Communications Server 2003, which delivers only the basics of instant messaging for sites that haven’t upgraded to the company’s latest and greatest. In eWEEK Labs’ tests, Live Communications Server and the required Messenger 5.0 client performed the IM basics and includes good integration with Microsoft Outlook 2003. The Microsoft platform also doesn’t provide Web conferencing, an application that delivers productivity gains when used hand in hand with IM. IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing does provide Web conferencing and costs a relatively cheap $48 per user, given the broader client and server options.

Capital IQ has announced upgrades to the Capital IQ Platform featuring new data sets and functionality. Market intelligence enhancements include: Users can now access fundamental financial data on over 500 private companies with public debt as well as annual reports, interim filings, and IPO prospectuses for over 13,000 non-US companies in over 65 countries. The software also includes a new My Sync Contacts tab within the My Capital IQ page that will serve as a conduit to help clients migrate their contacts to and from Microsoft Outlook.

Forward Solutions announced that it has been awarded the XCHANGE XCELLENCE Award for Best New Software Product at a recent CMP Media XChange conference. Forward Solutions received the award for its flagship product Migo, a new mobile computing system in a sleek, key-sized USB-based flash memory device. The Migo’s PocketLogin software automatically synchronizes Microsoft Outlook email accounts, including contacts and calendars.

Data-protection application vendor Connected plans to announce the acquisition of email archive vendor Archive-it, according to CRN. Archive-it’s MailStore v2.1 offers email archiving technology with full security features, such as 256-bit encryption that can be offered as a service. MailStore currently is being sold through indirect channels with the ability to securely archive emails generated by Microsoft Exchange. Modules for Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise are expected to be available by year-end or early next year.

Panda Software is launching the EnterpriSecure solution to provide a defense for common business messaging systems. Starting with the defense system for Microsoft Exchange Server, Exchange will be protected by systems which include ExchangeSecure. This solution protects Exchange systems from version 5.5 to the latest Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. IBM’s product for messaging and workgroups in business environments, Lotus Domino, is protected by Panda Software’s DominoSecure solution. This module of EnterpriSecure was developed specifically for Notes/Domino servers, and therefore offers complete integration.

Kubi Software announced a technology integration agreement with salesforce.com. The Kubi Connector for salesforce.com, which integrates Kubi Client with salesforce.com’s suite of on-demand CRM applications, will be demonstrated this week at salesforce.com’s Dreamforce user and developer conference.Kubi Client delivers the functionality teams need to securely revise documents, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects from within the familiar email environment (Microsoft Outlook or IBM Lotus Notes).
