DeepNines Technologies claims its Sleuth9 Security System stops the latest virus, Mimail, that exploits Microsoft Outlook email systems. The Mimail.c worm clones itself by sending emails to addresses in a compromised machine’s address book.

Smartphone comparison

The Contra Costa Times compares a few of the new mobile phones that feature a thumb-operated keyboard: the Nokia 6800, the Blackberry 7230, the T-Mobile Sidekick and the Hitachi G 1000. The review says that the Nokia 6800 is the best and most affordable email and phone combo. Also, for email, the G1000 uses a pocket version of Microsoft Outlook, which will appeal to users who prefer the desktop version of Outlook.

Interactive Intelligence has released a major upgrade to Communit=E9r, its =20 unified communications software. The new release, version 2.2.2, adds=20 support for Sun ONE (formerly iPlanet) Message Server and IBM Lotus=20 Notes/Domino. The new release also includes upgrades for support of=20 Microsoft Exchange Server, including Exchange Server 2003.

AMD signs deal with salesforce.com

salesforce.com announced that AMD has signed a three-year contract to standardize 800 global subscribers on salesforce.com’s Winter ’04 release. With salesforce.com’s sforce 2.0 on-demand application server, AMD will be able to customize and extend the salesforce.com application. Integration with Microsoft Outlook ensures the AMD sales team can communicate with customers via email while capturing all of the pertinent data in salesforce.com.

This week computer viruses celebrate 20 years of causing trouble and strife to all types of computer users. According to BBC News, U.S. student Fred Cohen was behind the first documented virus that was created as an experiment in computer security. Now there are almost 60,000 viruses in existence and they have gone from being a nuisance to a permanent menace.
