GFI Network Server Monitor

GFI introduced GFI Network Server Monitor, a tool that automatically monitors the network and servers for failures, and allows administrators to identify and fix issues before users report them. Alerts can be sent by email, pager or SMS. Actions, such as rebooting a machine, restarting a service or running a script, can be done automatically.

Server issues?

We’re experiencing some performance issues this morning. We can’t yet tell if it’s related to the attack we got over the weekend, or if it’s something new from outside or on our end. Please be patient…we’ll get this resolved ASAP.

DOS Blocked

We recently experienced a Denial of Service attack from the domain AMERION.COM, which also operates TELEVAR.COM and BOSSIG.COM. If you have mail through any of these domains and you attempt to contact us, you will have been blocked by our server. It does not appear that the operator of these domains is conducting a malicious attack; it appears to be a server configuration issue. That said, we’ve been forced to block all mailing coming from them until they fix the problem (which will likely not be over the weekend).

Email collaboration tools

This article from Darwin Magazine talks about email collaboration tools. The article mentions that Kubi offered the ease of implementation and adoption not found in most collaboration software. Kubi functions as a plug-in to Outlook and Lotus Notes mail clients.

FalconStor continues Microsoft support

FalconStor Software announced qualification of its IPStor iSCSI appliance under the Designed for Windows Logo Program, continuing FalconStor’s support of Microsoft solutions and technology. FalconStor has been working with Microsoft, and in the past year, has put its IPStor technology through rigorous testing to help ensure interoperability with the Windows platform. In addition to achieving qualification by supporting the Microsoft iSCSI software initiator and Microsoft Windows Server 2003, IPStor technology also supports the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 platform.

Seclutions AG announced the newest release of its application security gateway, AirLock. AirLock 3.3 secures Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) from application-level attacks, in addition to offering new application security and availability features to its gateway.

Novell supports Exchange 2003

IT Web of South Africa reports that Novell announced support for Microsoft Exchange 2003 via its Ximian Connector for Microsoft Exchange. Ximian Connector for Microsoft Exchange enables users of the Ximian Evolution email and workgroup information management application to collaborate with Windows users connected to Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003 servers.

Private social networks for corporations

eWeek reports that Contact Network Corporation is releasing Contact Network 2.5, server software that allows corporations to create their own private social networks where employees can mine each other’s contacts to find new introductions and sales leads. Contact Network gathers contact information from emails, address books and resumes on corporate computing systems. It already supported data collection from Microsoft Outlook and Exchange as well as Lotus Notes and Domino, and in the latest release adds support for Outlook 2003 and Windows Server 2003.
