Finjan has announced that the Finjan product line blocks attempted exploits allowed due to the high risk vulnerability in Internet Explorer recently discovered by security advisor, Thor Larholm, of PivX, a network security consultancy company. The vulnerability affects any application that hosts the Web Browser control including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Outlook Express. The vulnerability in Internet Explorer uses universal cross domain scripting enabling elevation of privileges, arbitrary command execution, local file reading and the stealing of arbitrary cookies.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison says he wants to exploit the security vulnerabilities and high price of Microsoft’s email software by selling customers a new package based on Oracle’s database. According to Information Week, Ellison said the Oracle Collaboration Suite will be more secure, reliable, and virus-free than Microsoft’s Exchange and Outlook products.

Pumatech announced that Kyocera Corporation has selected Pumatech’s Intellisync Lite software to provide core synchronization capabilities for Kyocera’s next-generation handheld device. Under the agreement, Pumatech’s Intellisync Lite will be bundled with the new Kyocera PocketCosmo to provide complete synchronization of email, calendar, contacts, tasks, notes and expense data between the new Java-based handheld and the Microsoft Outlook and Palm Desktop PC-based software applications. In addition, Intellisync Lite for Kyocera PocketCosmo will provide advanced synchronization capabilities such as intelligent field mapping, custom filtering, and full conflict resolution to ensure the accuracy, convenience, and reliability associated with Pumatech’s Intellisync software.

Quester has introduced OLWorkgroupFolders, which allows sharing personal folders in Outlook via a TCP/IP network. Features include the ablility to access via slow connection, such as ISDN or modem, the client runs as a store provider (service) in windows messaging, allowing all applications based on MAPI connecting to remote folders. Another feature is that users may have different user rights, such as read-only or no access to certain folders.

Extended Systems announced that it has released XTNDConnect PC version 4.8. The new version of software adds synchronization support for three additional personal information management (PIM) applications, including Microsoft Outlook Notes, Palm Memo Pad and Lotus Notes Journal. Other enhancements include read/unread email status filters and support for ACT! 5.0.

Cornerstone Information Systems has announced that it has selected Infotriever to provide Organizer Integration technology to its ResMAIL product. The combined solution will enable Cornerstone clients using ResMAIL to deliver travel information into their travelers’ personal organizers including: Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, Palm OS and Act 2000. Cornerstone’s ResMAIL product provides customers with the ability to brand their own content and deliver one-to-one customer care. In addition, travel agents using ResMAIL can deliver flight options and other personalized services directly from their desktop or a Web-based interface to their travelers via email, or now with Infotriever, directly into the traveler’s personal organizer.

Gigamedia Access Corporation announced the launch of its value added reseller (VAR) program as well as an agreement with its first distributor, Trio Teknologies. Gigamedia and Trio will market the PeerSwitch service. PeerSwitch is a software-based service that enables mobile workers to access and share information on their personal computers or corporate LAN. Using PeerSwitch, mobile customers can use web-enabled phones, PDAs, or other PCs to read and send email, read and attach files, find and call contacts, read and change schedules, and share information from their personal computers without re-configuring firewalls, copying data, or forwarding email.
