NowSpeed version 2.5

NowSpeed will release version 2.5 and announce 10,000 licensed users and 1,000 downloads of NowSpeed Mobile Office. NowSpeed is designed to deliver enterprise-wide, secure access to Microsoft Outlook from voice, PDA, and browsing platforms. Release 2.5 will extend this capability to include document access, alerts, and extensibility to other enterprise applications.

Air2Web and SOSystems

Air2Web has signed a deal with SOSystems of Orem, Utah. SOSystems provides credit unions with open-system data processing solutions. SOSystems is integrating their new mobile banking product M*Tellertm with Air2Web’s wireless platform. Beginning in April, SO Systems’ clients will be able to offer their credit union customers wireless banking services via Short Message Service(SMS) and Web-enabled phones (WAP), personal digital assistants (PDAs such as a Palm handhelds), pagers, and other wireless devices including email devices.

AvantGo, Inc. is debuting AvantGo Mobile Inspection, a packaged mobile application designed to improve business inefficiencies that result from performing inspection, asset tracking, loss prevention, safety, and environmental audit tasks. The solution will be unveiled at the sixth annual Mobile Computer User Group Forum 2002, held April 10-12 in London.

New Datastick tools

Datastick Systems, Inc. announced the availability of Datastick Connection 2.0 and the alternative Datastick Connection Plus 2.0. Datastick Connection is the software component of the Palm OS-based MyCorder DAS-1206 Data Acquisition System, which allows users to take sophisticated scientific and industrial measurements in the field, record them, display them on a Palm handheld, and synchronize them at a later time to their desktop computers for analysis. Datastick Connection Plus 2.0 extends the feature set to include a broader set of logging and display options, such as the ability to assign alarms and recording thresholds to various input channels.

PDASecure for IBM Microdrive

Trust Digital and IBM announced that Trust Digital’s new line of encryption software, PDASecure, is designed to safeguard mobile information stored on the IBM Microdrive. Using password protection, data encryption, and a variety of administration control features, Trust Digital’s encryption software protects data stored on expansion memory cards such as the Microdrive from internal and external fraud, theft, sabotage, and hacking. The IBM Microdrive offers storage capacities ranging from 340 MB to 1 GB on a single one-inch diameter hard disk drive.

Simplicity for Mobile Servers

The general availability of Simplicity for Mobile Servers was announced at JAVA ONE Expo 2002, by Data Representations, Inc. This new rapid application development software was shown for the first time in the Data Representations booth. Data Representations & Cingular built integrated server and Palm applications for attendees then sent responses and requests via PalmNet to a server based in New Jersey. The demonstration was a proof statement for how quickly and efficiently the network operates and how easy it is to program applications and servlets in a J2EE and J2ME Java Enterprise Environment using Simplicity for Mobile Servers rapid application development tools.

Quickoffice Conference demo

Cutting Edge Software, Inc. announced that a demonstration of its soon-to-be-released Quickoffice Conference wireless collaboration tool for Palm OS handhelds was prominently featured during the keynote address at the PalmSource Japan Forum in Kioicho, Tokyo on March 28. As they did at the PalmSource Conference in San Jose, California in February, representatives of PalmSource, Inc. demonstrated the peer-to-peer collaborative capabilities of Quickoffice Conference during the keynote address of David Nagel, PalmSource president and CEO.

Localization tech disclosed

Paragon Software announced public disclosure of its Palm OS localization technology. Palm OS localization API (PiLoc API) allows third-party developers to use in their applications all features of mutli-language support, provided by PiLoc localization technology: national fonts, Graffiti, national keyboard layouts, national text encoding etc.
