Open-Xchange aims for Lotus and Microsoft

Open-Xchange has clarified its relationship with Novell and kicked off a new relationship with Red Hat. The deals mean the vendor can now bundle and resell either of the leading Linux operating systems with its Open-Xchange Server. Open-Xchange has the ambition to become one of the top three players in the groupware market within the next few years.

Verizon Wireless has introduced Eudora2go, a service based on the Eudora interface that instantly pushes your email to qualified Get It Now enabled phones. Eudora2go will forward messages from Eudora, Outlook and Lotus Notes/Domino as well as IMAP or POP3 post offices like Google Gmail and Yahoo! Mail.

Microsoft settles Alacritech lawsuit

Microsoft settled a lawsuit that claimed it planned to incorporate a patented networking technology into future versions of the Windows operating system without permission. The agreement grants Microsoft and chipmaker Broadcom access to related patents held by Alacritech for an unspecified fee. In exchange, Alacritech will drop all outstanding litigation against Microsoft. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.=20

BoxTone 2.0 released

Panacya recently released BoxTone 2.0, which features end-to-end visibility into several email environments, including Microsoft Outlook and Exchange, and BlackBerry. Features include organization, location and end-user views of email performance, early-warning monitoring, remote data collection without agent deployment and management, and alerts via voice, images, pagers and email.

Former BEA CTO resurfaces at Liquid System

Nearly a year after quitting his job as chief technology officer at BEA Systems, Scott Dietzen has resurfaced. He is now serving as president and chief technology officer of little-known California, start-up Liquid System. The company has developed client and server-side software designed to replace enterprise collaboration products such as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange

Sprint expands wirless email

Sprint last week said it has expanded its wireless email services to Java-enabled multimedia mobile devices, giving more customers the ability to access corporate email from their cell phones. PCS Business Connection provides real-time access to Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, POP, and IMAP information, including email messages and attachments, calendars, business directories and personal contacts, desktop documents, and email from Internet accounts.
