
<p>SMILE 90.4FM, Cape Town's newest radio station, this week signed its first big advertising deal, with First National Bank (FNB), as it tries to break into the city's crowded commercial radio space.</p><p>The station did not give the exact figure of the deal due to "client confidentiality", but said it was "significant" considering the station had been on air for only three months.</p><p>The private commercial radio station hit the airwaves in March, amid fear that it might struggle to attract advertisers and break into the heavily contested commercial radio space in the city, which is dominated by the likes of Heart FM, KFM and Good Hope FM.</p><p>According to the PwC South African Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2010-14 report, radio advertising is expected to top R3.6bn in 2014.
