Symbian is dead , long live … Windows Phone ?

<p>Symbian. Before Android, iOS, webOS, and iOS, it was the world's number one mobile operating system by a massive margin. And now, in this foul year of our lord, 2013, the platform is finally dead gone forever.</p><p>Nokia confirmed on Wednesday that it had indeed shipped its last ever batch of Symbian handsets, reports the FT.</p><p>Nokia confirmed it was ditching the OS in favour of Windows Phone back in 2011 and would gradually faze Symbian out of existence. The Nokia PureView 808, launched at MWC 2012, will now forever be known as the last true Symbian phone.</p><p>Launched in 1997 and programmed in C++, Symbian had a pretty decent innings 16 years to be exact and powered some of the market's most innovative handsets.</p><p><a href="http://www.knowyourmobile.com/samsung/20437/symbian-dead-long-live-windows-phone">Keep reading...</a></p>
