
<p>Underscoring theskyrocketing growth of WhatsApp, a new report says the popular messaging app has generated more messages than all the mobile operators combined in any country, including the U.S. and China.</p><p>It also underscores the challenge wireless carriers face from the rise of messaging apps that also include Facebook Messenger, Line, MessageMe and Viber.</p><p>Consumer embrace of these free orlow-cost services, especially among younger users, points to less reliance on SMS text-messaging, long a cash cow for carriers.
