<p>| GENEVA, March 31 (KUNA) -- A recent report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCATD) on recent developments and new challenges in commodity markets, said on Sunday that renewable or green energy is the fastest growing subsector in the global energy mix.</p><p>The report indicated that between 2000 and 2011, the total production of renewables has increased by 277 percent, compared to 68 percent for coal growth.</p><p>In 2011, global investment in the renewable energy sector has also increased by 17 percent, reaching an unprecedented level of USD 257 billion by 2012, despite uncertainty over economic growth and policy priorities in developed economies, added UNCATD.</p><p>Furthermore, the rapid growth in green energy is buttressed by increasing technological advances, high petroleum prices, carbon pricing tax, and sustained subsidy measures.</p><p><a href="http://www.power-eng.com/news/2013/04/01/renewable-energy-is-fastest-growing-subsector-in-global-energy-mix-report.html">Keep reading...</a></p>
