<p>Democrat-turned-Republican Artur Davis on Saturday criticized his new party's messaging toward poor and working-class Americans, taking several shots at Mitt Romney.</p><p>"The Americans I'm describing aren't takers, they aren't living off the government dime, they're helping fund this government as much as anyone at that dinner last night," Davis said at the Conservative Political Action Conference, referring to the conference's gala dinner. "The difference is that when Washington takes their money, they feel it more strongly than many of us did."</p><p>Noting poor and working-class Americans lose a large chunk of their paychecks to Social Security and payroll taxes, Davis said conservatives shouldn't be surprised when they expect the government to help them.</p><p>"If they aren't paying anything at the end of the year, it's because they've already had it taken out of their paychecks," Davis said. "They aren't living off dividends.
