<p>From 3 p.m. on Monday, December 17, to 9 p.m. on December 19, Information Technology Services (ITS) updated the older Microsoft Exchange 2007 server to the Microsoft Exchange 2010 server, which resulted in a thirty-minute disruption in email for students, faculty and staff. The new server is projected to forestall any future server glitches similar to those that resulted in email outages earlier in the fall term.</p><p>Mr. Andrew Speyer, Director of Information Technology Services, sent out an email to the Choate Community after the switchover had been successfully completed: "One server has been replaced with four; two redundant systems that talk to each other constantly. When one system fails or loses connectivity, the other becomes the primary one." One system is located in Brownell, and the other in Steel Hall.</p><p>"We had one mail server.
