Mitt Romney's campaign has been saying for over a week now that its message is going to get more specific about policy and more focused on a change-versus-status quo frame for the election. In an interview with ABC News today, here's how Romney described the shift:

ABC News: Your campaign's been talking about this reset going into the last couple of weeks. what are we going to see that's different that we haven't seen? What is this reset to you?

Mitt Romney: Well, I'm going to be speaking about the same topics I have in the past, but I'm going to make sure that people understand that this is a different direction for the nation and that if they want the status quo. They can re-elect the person who has been leading us over the last four years. If they instead want to see this country go on a path that creates jobs and rising incomes, then they're going to have to vote for real and positive change, and that's what I represent.

Based on that answer, it's not really clear how Romney's new message is going to be different from his old message, since it's not as if he wasn't already talking about job creation and taking a "different direction for the nation." His message today, hitting Obama for his "60 Minutes" comments about violence in North Africa, doesn't fit neatly within that frame.

Read also:

Mitt and the threat of abandonment (Salon)

Presidential Polls 2012: Skewed Polling and Biased Media Coverage Give ... (PolicyMic)

Obama and Romney return to Ohio this week; 48 hours that will set the pace for ... (Plain Dealer)

Explore: 12,325 additional articles.
