Microsoft has released the F# compiler and core library source code under the Apache 2.0 license. Microsoft will continue to have full control of the future of F# but expects to continue code drops to coincide with Visual Studio 200 updates.

A few weeks ago Microsoft added detection and removal capabilities to its free Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) that targeted the Zeus Trojan. Now the malware has been updated to avoid MSRT detection.

Patch Tuesday is next week. This time there will only be three bulletins addressing 11 vulnerabilities. However. The zero-day vulnerability in IE is not to be among the fixes.

Instead of putting a stand-alone copy of Win7 on every desktop in your company, Microsoft would like to see you put a virtual copy of the OS on the desktop. Virtualized desktops might make it easier to run legacy apps, such as Internet Explorer 6.

Kinect includes a facial recognition system. As with some other such systems, Kinect has difficulty "seeing" features on dark skin. The company is asking users to report problems so they can correct the issue.

Internet Explorer, versions 6-8, is once again under attack. Two new exploits target newly discovered holes. Microsoft has issued information on work-arounds while they work on a patch.

It may not be Microsoft that’s so clueless, it may be their advertising agency. On the other hand, someone had to hire the agency doing the Windows Phone 7 campaign. Or maybe, after the Kin debacle, they just don’t like phones.

People have Windows 7 on their computers at home but, much to their dislike, continue to use WinXP at work. Employees, not the IT department, are pushing their companies to move to Win7.

Phones running Windows Phone 7 will be available soon. Microsoft has been advertising heavily in hopes you’ll skip the Android and Apple offerings and buy their phones instead. But. Just how good is the WP7 operating system?
