Where’d my To-Do Bar go?

OUTLOOK Q&A

By David Gewirtz

This happens to me all the time. I know I have a lot to do, and to organize it all, I write it down on a to-do list. And then I lose the list!

Well, technically, I type my to-do items into the To-Do section of Outlook and use Outlook to keep me on track, but we've all lost our lists from time-to-time. It's a shame that if you lose your to-do list, you still have to do what's on it, right?

Anyway, Reader Vardo Endzela went one step further. He lost the To-Do bar that's on Outlook 2007's main screen. He writes:

Oh, Lord, I'm in trouble now. I lost the To-Do bar, and I can't live without it. I never remember to check the To-Do folder and without that bar, I'm not just dropping the ball, I'm forgetting it even existed.
Can you help me find it?
Also, I don't use the calendar and appointment stuff. Can I turn them off somehow? I've clicked everywhere.

Fortunately for Vardo, this is very easy. Everything is controlled by the View Menu, as shown in Figure A.

You can control it all from here. (click for larger image)

As you can see, just go to the To-Do Bar fly-out menu and select Normal or Minimized. Yours is probably set to Off. I keep mine Minimized, but you'll probably want yours set to Normal.

Then turn off the Date Navigator. That'll turn off the calendar. And turn off Appointments. Guess what that'll turn off? Right...the appointments display.

And there you have it. Now, go do something.
