The order to the Central government was passed after Govindacharya's counsel Veerag Gupta argued that children below 18 are getting into an agreement with the social networking sites. This is against the Indian Majority Act, the Indian Contract Act and also the Information and Technology Act. So what exactly are the issues being raised in the petition?

According to the petition, the government needs to ensure safety of the data of 50 million Indian users, which was transferred "to the US and is being used for commercial gains in violation of the right to privacy."

Read also:

Facebook, Gmail accounts for minors: Sangh leader wants High Court to ban it (Northern Voices Online)

Explore: 19 additional articles.
