As of October 11th, 2012 the latest milestone in development has been hit by Microsoft Office. The build of Office 13, Release to Manufacturing (RTM) has been signed by Microsoft's Office development team. This means that all coding and testing is complete. The suite will be available for general use in the first quarter of 2013.

The new version's preview has been available for some time now. Obviously a bit of work has been done to bring better touch compatibility to the software but that is not of much importance.

Though a few months are left for the release of Office 2013, the customers shopping at the moment wouldn't be ignored. Starting from October 19th anybody buying a license for Office 2013 will be given a free upgrade to 2013 as soon as it is available for general use. Customers purchasing Windows RT devices after their release on October 26th will find a default copy of the Preview of Office 2013 installed on their device. This is done to hold them over until the Microsoft Office 2013 is officially released.

The Office Customer Preview is available on a particular website. It contains the entire functional installation of the software suite. This will remain active up to a period of 60 days after Office 2013 is released for sale. It is good to use the license for up to five computers per person. After the last date of the preview, one is restricted to read only mode until he purchases a valid license. This means that one can open and print documents but his ability to edit and share is completely disabled.
