<p>Redmond has issued a patch for Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 to cure a bug that borked its backups.</p><p>The sleep-wrecking (for sys admins, anyhow) bug tipped backups into a bucket, whether using Windows Server Backup or third party products, according to this Knowledge Base article.</p><p>The backup crashes would report problems with "The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer", something that Microsoft said happened because "an internal structure is not initialised properly in Exchange 2013.</p><p>As the update explanation states: "Cumulative Update 3 includes a fix for an issue which may randomly prevent a backup dataset taken from Exchange Server 2013 from restoring correctly.
